Karaage is Japan's answer to fried chicken: juicy thigh pieces marinated in soy, garlic and ginger, then coated and fried until crisp. Thigh is the traditional choice because it stays tender and moist. These pieces come pre-fried, so you just need to reheat them until crisp and piping hot.
Each 1kg pack holds 32 to 47 pieces, serving 4 to 5 people.
Cook from frozen. Oven-bake at 200°C for 15 to 18 minutes, air-fry at 190°C for 10 to 12 minutes, or deep-fry at 170°C for 4 to 5 minutes, until crisp and piping hot throughout. Serve the traditional way with a wedge of lemon and Japanese mayonnaise, or over rice with pickles for a karaage don.
All our products are frozen to lock in quality. Keep frozen until needed and cook from frozen. Free delivery Tuesday to Friday on orders over £75, or collect from us if you're near South Ruislip.
What's the difference between karaage and katsu?
Karaage is bite-sized marinated chicken with a light coating. Katsu is a flattened cutlet coated in panko breadcrumbs and usually served sliced.
Why thigh rather than breast?
Thigh meat has more fat and flavour, so it stays juicy inside the crisp coating.
