Ebi fry is a Japanese favourite: plump, stretched prawns coated in light, crunchy panko and fried until golden. Because the prawns are stretched before coating, they stay long and straight, which is why they look so good in bento boxes and sushi rolls. These come ready-breaded and individually frozen, so you can cook straight from the freezer in minutes.
Each 250g pack holds 10 prawns, serving 1 to 2 people.
Cook from frozen. Deep-fry at 175 to 180°C for 2 to 3 minutes until golden and crisp, or air-fry at 200°C for 8 to 10 minutes, turning halfway, until piping hot throughout. Serve the traditional way with tonkatsu sauce, Japanese mayonnaise and shredded cabbage, or slice into futomaki rolls and bento boxes.
All our seafood are frozen to lock in quality. Keep frozen until needed and cook from frozen. Free delivery Tuesday to Friday on orders over £75, or collect from us if you're near South Ruislip.
What is panko?
Panko is a Japanese breadcrumb made from crustless bread. Its large, airy flakes give a lighter, crunchier coating than ordinary breadcrumbs.
What's the difference between ebi fry and butterfly prawns?
Ebi fry are stretched long and straight before coating. Butterfly prawns are opened out flat into a fan shape.
